did you know . . .

. . . that April is National Poetry Month?

Last year I found a fun way to get into the spirit at poets.org. You can sign up on the website to receive a poem a day via email.

The poems are modern ones, so you won't be sent any by Emily Dickinson [pictured to left] or other poets you may have studied, but the website also features an archive, with access to poetry written by both past and modern poets.

One of my favorite poems by Emily Dickinson:

There is no frigate like a book

There is no Frigate like a Book
To take us Lands away,
Nor any Coursers like a Page
Of prancing Poetry –
This Traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of Toll –
How frugal is the Chariot
That bears a Human soul.
